Duac Once Daily Gel for Acne - An update after 4 months

I apologise in advance for the horrible photos of before, but I want people to see the real results.

This is before I started using Duac Once Daily Gel:

And this is how my skin is looking now (without any makeup on):

I'm shocked with the results and I'm only really using Duac once per week now. I really did think I was going to have to go back on Roaccutane again and was gutted. I still have a little bit of red pigmentation marking and scarring, but in comparison to how my skin was, the results are amazing.

Now I've put the photos together, side by side, it's given me a real positive boost.

To keep on top of my skin (as Duac seems to be a little irritating on my skin now that there are no really cystic spots for it to work on), I've brought Darphin's Overnight Refining Lotion. I'm not really sure whether this is going to help with my spots, or more just help to reduce oil in the skin, but I'll give it a go for a few weeks and report back.

I think I'm also going to buy Smashbox's new Blemish Control Primer, as it contains 2% salicylic acid which will certainly help to keep my spots at bay.

If you've used any fabulous products, please recommend them to me.

  3. Hi I starting using duac once daily for the first time yesterday after my GP prescribed it for me. The results you got from it are really impressive it gives great hope. Did you experience any redness or burning the first time you used it? I have a really red patch on my neck this morning after using it last night.

  4. No, I didn't experience any redness the first time I used it, but I think this may be because my spots were all over. Over time though, as my spots disappeared, my skin became very sensitive to the cream and became red, inflamed and it hurt, almost like I had been burnt. To get round this now if I do have the odd break out, I use a cotton bud and apply the tiniest amount to the head of each spot, if I get in on any areas of my skin, it makes them sore, red and itchy. I hope this helps. Good luck xx

  5. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. My skin feels a little tight & the area under my chin feels a little inflamed but I hope for some improvement over the next few weeks.
Thanks for sharing your story so honestly.

    1. When my acne looked like it did in the before photos, I used it every night until all of my acne/spots cleared up. I used quite a decent amount, around 1/2 inch length of cream on each cheek. Now, since my skin is looking a lot better, I just use a tiny bit dabbed onto any spots that crop up with a cotton bud. I hope this helps.

    1. When my acne looked like it did in the before photos, I used it every night because my acne was still bad and it needed it, so yes. I maybe did take 1 - 2 nights break if my skin started getting really dry and irritated by the gel. You might find you get more breakouts perhaps, over the next two weeks, but once you start using the gel again, it should calm down. I'm not sure if you're in the UK or from America, but in the UK you can order repeat prescriptions quite easily without having to make an appointment with the Dr. Usually your local pharmacy can set up and arrange this for you.
      Good luck.
